Not My Job

What is it that you consider as your job?

Is it the specific things listed in your job description provided by your employer? Is that your job?

What about growing and developing as a human being?

How about showing up at the office or whatever your specific workplace might be and demonstrating some of your human qualities? And preferably some of the ‘nicer’ attributes…kindness, consideration, generosity, compassion, thoughtfulness.

For a change ask yourself this question:

  • What can I do that might make someone else’s ‘job’ (life) a little easier?

“But I don’t get paid to do… (whatever)”;  “That’s someone else’s job”; “That’s someone else’s problem”; “They get paid more than I do!”

That may be the case but what’s wrong with thinking about someone other than yourself?

You can put in a little extra effort without necessarily making things harder than they need be for yourself.

Also, it’s not necessary to do something only where there’s a chance of being noticed by your ‘boss’.  Or where you have to do something grand or extravagant to gain some publicity or media coverage of your action – “Look at me!  Look what I’m doing!”.

Just do little things when you can. It’s not difficult to find opportunities. They’re all around you, if you look and are aware of others’ needs.
